Spend an unforgettable time in the exclusive "House 1683"
Modern elements paired with the rustic coziness of a wooden house that is over 340 years old – this is what reflects the character of House 1683 at the Wolfbauerhof.
Amenities
Architecture
The original building clearly set the tone for the design of the house. We made a point of not presenting the craftsmen involved, all of whom are based in the region, with a finished plan, but rather a rough outline. We worked out the detailed planning together, often in very intensive discussions and a heated exchange of ideas. We were simply overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and commitment with which everyone tackled the project, but also by how sensitively they internalized the history of the house. It was a pleasure to work with you. The result is a mix of styles, combining very modern elements with the rustic coziness of a 340-year-old wooden house. But come and see for yourself.
Sustainability
When renovating the old granary, we tried to conserve resources as much as possible. We used trees that had died due to bark beetle infestation as construction timber. This can be seen from the partial blue discoloration. The roof was covered with clay tiles, and the insulation was largely made of cellulose or wood fibers. Wherever possible and technically feasible, we used local woods. The interior walls are plastered with pure lime plaster and painted with lime paint. This can certainly be seen as a reminder of the grain silo's origins, as lime used to be burned in the farm's own lime kiln. Every room in the building is heated by underfloor heating, powered by an air heat pump. Old walls, modern technology.
Highlight
The bathroom is an absolute highlight, offering views of the Hochtor mountain range and the waterfall through its huge panoramic window. Your ears will be treated to a Bluetooth sound system in the bathroom, and the indirect lighting creates a cozy atmosphere in the room. There are also small touches such as the illuminated and heated bathroom mirror and the heated towel warmer. Access to the terrace transforms the bathroom into a real spa area. This gives you direct access to the barrel sauna, which is generously equipped with a panoramic window, a sound system, a second seating area, and high-quality LED lighting.
Wine cellar
Ancient architecture meets refined enjoyment—cabbage, turnips, and Dionysus!
Where cabbage, turnips, and potatoes used to be stored, something else is stored today, but presented in a slightly different way. The vaulted cellar of the old granary has been brought back to life in a playful way and offers a unique setting in which to enjoy hand-picked wines with a connection to the Gesäuse region.
Another highlight is the selection of organically produced natural wines from Styria. Who can claim to have a private wine cellar in their accommodation?
